As with any project, the biggest starting concern is how much it will cost, and just where and when that money is supposed to appear! Unless you plan to sell your current home and believe it will generate enough funding to purchase the land and finance the construction of your new home, you'll need to get started saving! I'm no rich man, so this will be a long-term project for us, but the first step is to get your finances in order and start saving towards your goals. Below are a few sites I find helpful in obtaining financial advice that can be applied towards saving for any goal.
It links to many other financial blogs that I also read, but I've found this one to be particularly helpful. You can follow the investing progress of the author, and get tips on the best savings rates and incentive programs.
